Touristic region of Franconia in Bavaria

Numerous tourists are happy to discover the Franconian region of northern Bavaria. Franconia is a picturesque vineyards and winegrowing region, cherry and fruit orchards in the Walberla area, Franconian forest, lakes, fichtel mountains, castles, palaces, caves hidden in the landscape, medieval cities. The region offers 10 natural parks that locals and guests are eager to visit. The largest natural park in the Altmuehtal region offers numerous cycling and hiking trails. Franconian Switzerland between the cities of Bamberg, Bayreuth and Nuernberg is also a popular place for excursions. The landscape is mountainous and hilly, amazing rock formations and gentle river valleys. Between them are medieval castles and palaces as well as more than 1000 caves with impressive stalactites.

If you come to Franconia, you definitely need to try the famous Franconian white wine. The culture of wine and beer has evolved over the centuries. Today in the region there are more than 300 breweries. Schauufele, a hearty pork shoulder dish with dumplings, is served with beer. You can also try the world famous Nuremberg grilled sausages. You can also visit the “wine” city of Wuerzburg with its traditional wine festivities and go down to the basement where you will be treated to the best white wine.

Castle road Franconia

Franconia offers an interesting route – the castle road. More than 70 castles and fortresses are located on this route. The length of the route is 770 km. Starting point: Mannheim. End point: Bayreuth. The duration of the trip by car is 3 -7 days. Attractions on the route: the Rosenberg fortification, the royal fortress at Nuernberg, Cadolzburg, Veste Coburg, Plassenburg, Kulmbach and others.

Hiking

An ideal tour for those who like hiking – Frankenweg 520 km long, this is the best route of Franconia  and shows the region from the most beautiful side. In addition, the route was certified as a “High – quality hiking route”. Here  you will find cultural discoveries, 6 Franconian landscapes, breweries, secret caves and impressive nature. Starting point: the pedestrian center Wander- Drehkreuz in Untereichenstein and the beginning of the path you pass through the Franconian forest. End point: Harburg Castle. Route: Untereichenstein – Franken forest – Floeserland – Obermain Jura – Gottesgarten am Obermain – Staffelberg – Fraenkische Schweiz – Naturpark Altmuehltal – Fraenkische Seeland – Harburg.
